Healthy fun

The YMCA will have Healthy Kids Day activities, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 27, to inspire kids to keep active and develop healthy habits.

It is part of a national initiative to improve health and well-being for kids and families with activities such as games, cooking demonstrations, arts and crafts.

One in three U.S. children is obese, and when summertime hits, kids are more idle. Research shows that without access to out-of-school physical and learning activities, kids fall behind academically and gain weight twice as fast during summer than during the school year.

Events will take place at all six YMCA of Snohomish County branch locations: Everett, 2720 Rockefeller Ave.; Marysville, 6420 60th Drive NE; Monroe/Sky Valley, 14033 Fryelands Blvd., Monroe; Mukilteo, 10601 47th Place West; Mill Creek, 13723 Puget Park Drive, Everett; Stanwood-Camano, 7213 267th St. NW, Stanwood.
