Road work ahead

Starting Monday night construction will begin on the shoulder of eastbound U.S. 2 from Highway 9 to Fryelands Boulevard in Monroe. Work will happen from 7 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. and could last until Thursday night.

Snohomish to host parade Saturday

The Snohomish Chamber of Commerce has planned the city’s 39th annual Easter Parade & Bonnet Contest on Saturday.

It’s set to start at 11 a.m. in downtown, on First Street. The bonnet contest is to follow afterward behind the judging booth at First Street and Avenue A. No registration is required. There’s no age restriction.

Kids wearing bonnets can ride on the chamber float. Board the float at Cedar Avenue and First Street no later than 10:45 a.m. Parents can ride with children or meet the float after the parade.

Plant trees for Earth Day

Adopt A Stream Foundation is inviting volunteers to help with planting 2,000 trees and shrubs along the middle fork of Quil Ceda Creek from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Location: Marysville Strawberry Fields Athletic Park, 6100 152nd Ave. NE.

The event, two days before Earth Day on Monday, is part of an effort to restore 8 acres of Quil Ceda Creek riparian zone with support from the Tulalip Tribes, state agencies, the Snohomish Conservation District, Marysville and others.

Volunteers of all ages are welcome. No registration required.

Fair board vacancies

Applications and nominations are needed for immediate openings on the Evergreen State Fair Advisory Board representing most parts of Snohomish County. The board aids in managing the annual 12-day fair and preserving its traditions. It promotes the county’s agricultural ties, expands programs for young people and recommends entertainment.

Applications can be found at www.evergreenfair.org/131/Fair-Advisory-Board. The 2019 Evergreen State Fair will run from Aug. 22 through Sept. 2.

Light rail open houses

Sound Transit is holding two open houses for the Lynnwood Link Extension. The agency plans to share information about what to expect during construction. A short presentation will begin at 6:15 p.m. An online open house also is available at lynnwoodlink.participate.online.
