Big trees, little trees: The May program meeting of the Pilchuck Audubon Society will be “Big Old Trees and Little Trees” with Jerry Franklin, professor of ecosystem processes and forest ecology at the School of Environmental and Forest Sciences at the University of Washington.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. today at the Everett Firefighter’s Hall, 2411 Hewitt Ave., Everett.
Franklin will speak about the importance to wildlife and vegetation of big, old trees. Franklin was among the principal architects of the Northwest Forest Plan and was appointed by former President Bill Clinton to the White House Forest Conference in 1993. The plan was pivotal in preserving old growth stands to restore habitat for the northern spotted owl.
