The USS Abraham Lincoln left Everett on Friday for extended maintenance at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton. The ship is scheduled to remain in Bremerton until mid-January, spokesman Lt. Cmdr. William Marks said.
About one third of the nearly 3,000-person crew will commute to Bremerton during that time. The rest of the sailors assigned to the ship either live in the Bremerton area already or will be housed on base there.
Following their time in the shipyard, the crew will begin a series of sea trials and training leading up to their next deployment, expected to be in fall of 2010, Marks said.
