Celebrate ‘butterflies’
People are invited to attend Cocoon House’s Butterfly Celebration later this month.
The fundraising event honors youths who have gone from life on the streets to reaching their goals with assistance from the agency that provides shelter and programs for at-risk teens and young adults.
Cocoon House opened in 1991 to provide emergency shelter to homeless teens. Over the past five years, Cocoon House has expanded its services to help growing numbers of teens and young adults who are homeless or at risk in Snohomish County. The celebration will honor youths who have obtained a GED or high school diploma, attended college, found stable jobs or housing or achieved other goals.
The celebration is planned for noon April 18 at Comcast Arena’s Edward D. Hansen Conference Center; 2000 Hewitt Ave. Everett.
People have the option of paying at the door or e-mailing chelsea.monroe@cocoonhouse.org to RSVP.
Cost is $10 per person, with a suggested donation of $100. For more information, call 425-259-3342.
Spring rains return: The weekend weather will be wet and messy, according to the National Weather Service in Seattle.
Up to an inch and a half of rain fell Thursday, and similar rainfall was expected through Saturday. Some snow will be in the mountains, but the passes should be clear albeit rainy.
High winds are predicted. Thunderstorms are possible Saturday and Sunday.
Local rivers will be rising, but no flooding is expected.
