Celebrating Arbor Day
About 370 Lynnwood fourth graders are planting trees Wednesday to celebrate this month’s Arbor Day.
In partnership with a Fourth Grade Foresters Program, the city of Lynnwood is providing trees for five elementary schools: Beverly, Lynndale, Lynnwood, Meadowdale and Spruce.
The students will take trees home to plant and care for.
“This is a wonderful program to get young people aware of our environment so they can begin to do their part to help preserve our planet,” said Lynn Sordel, the city’s director of parks, recreation and cultural arts.
The city paid for the trees.
Each fourth grader will receive a 12-inch to 18-inch Douglas fir tree seedling individually packaged by workers with disabilities. Each package will include information about Washington’s Arbor Day with planting and care instructions.
