Get a Christmas tree for $10, $20
Christmas trees can be cut on the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest from now until Dec. 24.
Permits are required; they cost $10 for trees under 12 feet and $20 for trees taller than that.
Permits for 12-foot and under trees are sold at REI. Permits for both are sold from ranger stations at the Verlot and Glacier public service centers. Rangers do not accept credit cards.
When you get your permit, you can get information on the cutting areas. Most trees are reached by unplowed mountain roads.
To find out road conditions, call the Forest Service at 425-783-6000.
Get more information on cutting trees, including a list of where you can buy permits, on the Forest Service website, http://tinyurl.com/cutyourown.
