Darrington talent show
The Darrington Historical Society is hosting a community talent show at 7 p.m. Friday at Darrington High School, 1085 Fir Street. Local performers include musicians and actors. The annual event raises money for the historical society. Entry is by donation, but no amount is set. North County Family Services also aims to raise money during the event with a bake sale at intermission.
Learn about the ORCA: Everett Community College’s Ocean Research College Academy (ORCA) hosts an information session at 6 p.m. March 19 at its recently expanded waterfront location, 1205 Craftsman Way, Suite 203, in Everett.
Visitors and prospective students can see student work, meet faculty, learn about the program and see the facility, including the oceanography research lab and 120-gallon seawater tank.
Two new classrooms were added to ORCA space in fall 2014. The expansion will allow more junior and senior high school students to participate in ORCA.
ORCA is sponsored by EvCC and was initially funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The academy recently was awarded two National Science Foundation grants, including one for the ORCA lab and one for its new research vessel.
