Protest discussion

The Snohomish County Commission on Human Rights, at a public meeting Friday, will discuss possible protests this weekend outside five Snohomish County churches. The Westboro Baptist Church, a Kansas group that has taken its anti-gay protests to military funerals, lists on its website protests Sunday morning at Canyon Creek Church, Christian Faith Center, Northshore Christian Church, New Life Church and St. Mary Magdalen Church, all in the Everett area. The human rights panel, a voluntary group, is scheduled to meet 2 to 5 p.m. Friday in the Robert J. Drewel Building, 3000 Rockefeller Ave. on the Snohomish County campus in Everett. Its agenda includes a discussion of community response to Westboro protests from 2:30 to 3 p.m. during Friday’s meeting.

The annual cat adoption “Meow in Mukilteo” is planned from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Avenue, Mukilteo.

Eight shelters and rescues will bring adoptable cats from for the event. All cats are spayed/neutered and up to date on vaccinations. Volunteers will be on hand to help people select their cats. Smoke and noise in the Clearview area today is for firefighter training at a home in the 7100 block of Interurban Boulevard.

The training is planned from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Various fire vehicles will be parked in that area. The road will be partially closed during training.
