Front Porch: Edmonds seeks applicants for economic commission

Join economic group

The city of Edmonds is seeking applicants interested in serving on its Citizens Economic Development Commission.

The commission addresses issues related to economic development and is responsible for helping identify new sources of revenue from development, new strategies for economic development and making recommendations on topics such as tourist development.

Meetings are held the third Wednesday evening of each month. Applications are available online at EdmondsWA.gov, at the reception desk in the lobby of City Hall at 121 5th Ave. N or by calling 425-771-0247.

Silvertips support police, firefighters: The Everett Silvertips “Local Heroes Night” is planned for Saturday’s home game at Xfinity Arena in Everett.

The Tips face the Seattle Thunderbirds just after 7 p.m. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales go toward a fund that supports the families of Snohomish County officers who are killed in the line of duty, along with the Snohomish County Firefighters Pipes and Drums and the Medic One Foundation.

This is the second year the event has been held. Tickets are available at www.everettsilvertips.com/LHN. More information also is posted at the Everett Police Department’s Facebook page. Group rates are available.

Annual run planned for slain officer: Register now for the annual Officer Jayme Biendl Memorial Run planned for 10 a.m. Jan. 25 at Sky River Park, 818 Village Way, Monroe.

The 5k run-or-walk event honors Biendl, who was murdered in 2011 at her post as a corrections officer at the Monroe Correctional Complex.
