Benefit car wash
Everett Community College nursing students are raising money and collecting donations of supplies for a December trip to the Dominican Republic to provide care for impoverished families.
Students are seeking donations of over-the-counter medications and hygiene supplies and money to purchase prescription medications such as antibiotics.
They will be collecting donations at two car washes from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and then Aug. 10 at Les Schwab, 4805 Evergreen Way, Everett.
The group of 20 students and three instructors will volunteer in December in the Dominican Republic’s capital, Santo Domingo.
Donate during Terrace parade: Concern For Neighbors Food Bank in Mountlake Terrace will have one of their vehicles in the Tour de Terrace parade in Mountlake Terrace on July 26. They will accept donations, either food or monetary donations.
New ship in town: An unusual ship, the USNS Montford Point, is scheduled to arrive this morning at Naval Station Everett.
The new Military Sealift Command ship, which left San Diego on July 12, is the Navy’s first in a new class of mobile landing platforms — a sort of mobile pier out in the ocean.
At 785 feet long, it displaces more than 80,000 tons when loaded. It’s not quite as long as the USS Nimitz.
