Riverfront decision
The City Council is expected to vote tonight on approving the sale of more than 100 acres of former industrial land slated for residential and commercial development.
The city in 2008 sold the site for $8 million to San Diego developer OliverMcMillan. The deal obligated the developer to firm construction deadlines and investments in public infrastructure. The city also has poured millions into reclaiming the land, which includes former mill sites and a former city dump.
Tonight’s vote is intended to make sure that those obligations carry over to homebuilder Polygon Northwest of Bellevue, which wants to buy the property. Consultants and city staff earlier this month gave presentations attesting to Polygon’s financial stability and experience with similar projects.
Tonight’s meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in City Council Chambers, 3002 Wetmore Ave.
Clothing drive ends Saturday: A monthlong drive to gather clothes for the nonprofit Clothes For Kids is ending this week. A stuff-the-truck event is planned from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Lynnwood Recreation Center, 18900 44th Ave W. Drop off new or gently used clothing.
