Get involved on Camano Island
Community groups on Camano Island are hosting an event to talk about volunteer, research and educational opportunities. Representatives from WSU Extension, Washington State Parks, Friends of Camano Island Parks and Backyard Wildlife Habitat are participating.
The event is set for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Camano Multipurpose Center, 141 N. East Camano Drive. People can learn about places to volunteer and how they can do things at home to protect habitats and resources. Questions? Email schase@wsu.edu.
New commissioner for Clearview: Jeff Schaub has been named as the new commissioner for Fire District 7, based in Clearview. A swearing-in ceremony was scheduled this week. Six people applied for the position.
Schaub’s appointment is up for election in November, then the term runs through 2021.
Schaub also works as an appraiser in the Snohomish County Assessor’s Office, according to a news release. He lives in the Bear Creek area of the fire district.
Superintendent interviews set: The Monroe School Board is scheduled to interview several candidates for superintendent from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 28. People are invited to listen in on the interviews at the school administration building, 200 East Fremont St.
Superintendent Ken Hoover is retiring June 30. The school board is taking advice from people about the educator they’d like to see hired to the position. A three-minute survey is available online at surveymonkey.com/s/monroesupt.
After the interviews, finalists will be invited back to Monroe for a day in early March. More info: monroe.wednet.edu.
