Friends of Camano Island Parks is hosting an educational 20th anniversary event at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Camano Multipurpose Center, 141 NE Camano Drive.
The Friends group focuses on preserving access to beach and forest recreation areas. The volunteer effort to protect shorelines and forests started in 1994.
Wednesday’s event is part of the organization’s educational Backyard Wildlife Habitat program. Val Schroeder, who wrote “Exploring Camano Island: A History and Guide,” will share her knowledge of the island and its parks. The event also celebrates the volunteers who keep the organization going.
The Friends sponsor the Camano Wildlife Habitat Project as well, which hosts public presentations on the third Wednesday of each month.
