Go get your razor clams
The state Department of Fish and Wildlife has approved a razor clam dig on ocean beaches Dec. 29 through Jan. 5. Digs are scheduled for evening tides; no digging will be allowed on any beach before noon.
Under state law, diggers can take 15 razor clams per day and are required to keep the first 15 they dig. Each digger’s clams must be kept in a separate container.
Additional digs are tentatively scheduled later in January and in February, but have not yet been approved.
Council meets: The Monroe City Council is holding a special meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday to discuss three amendments to the comprehensive plan and municipal code.
The council expects to take action on an ordinance that would allow a 43-acre property north of U.S. 2 on the east side of Monroe to be rezoned from limited open space to general commercial land. The council also expects to determine how much of a discount developers will receive in school-impact fees in the coming year. If the council decides to increase discounts for developers, the school district may consider a new bond to make up for the lost funding. The public cancomment on the agenda items. The meeting will take place at 806 W. Main St.
