Hear concert, learn German
A young indie pop band from Germany, Tonbandgerät (“Tape Recorder”), will kick off its 11-city U.S. tour in Everett with a free concert at 11 a.m. March 4 at the Everett Civic Auditorium, 2416 Colby Ave. The band won Germany’s New Music Award in 2012.
More than 1,200 German-language learners from high schools across the state are expected to attend. There are seats available to the general public. Registration is required. Contact Peter Zygowski of the Goethe-Institut of San Francisco at Peter.Zygowski@sanfrancisco.goethe.org or 415-263-8765.
The tour was organized by the Goethe-Institut, Germany’s global cultural center, in cooperation with high school teachers as part of the advertising campaign “Just Add German.” German-language teachers Kathy Lockwood of Cascade High and Kelly Dietsch of Jackson High are helping to coordinate the event.
EvCC spring quarter: Everett Community College is registering students now for spring quarter in Adult Basic Education and English as a second language. Classes start March 31.
To register, students must attend an orientation session. Sessions are offered in February and March for both programs.
ABE classes are for students 16 and older who have not completed high school or would like to brush up on their basic reading, writing or math skills.
English as a Second Language classes are for students whose first language is not English.
For both programs, the orientation and placement test are free. Classes are $25.
