Kids’ fish-in
The annual Silver Lake Kids’ Fish-in on Saturday provides children ages 4 to 14 the opportunity to bait, cast and catch trout. Expert guides from the Everett Steelhead and Salmon Club will be on hand to assist.
“The fish-in is a great way to introduce kids to fishing and get them outside,” said Barry Martin, recreation coordinator.
The fish-in runs from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Thornton A. Sullivan Park, 11405 W. Silver Lake Road. The event is free, but registration is required. Children who have their own gear and poles should bring those along. There will be a limited supply of gear to borrow.
Register at the Everett Parks &Recreation Office, 802 E. Mukilteo Blvd., or download a registration form at everettwa.org/parks. Completed forms may be returned by fax, email or mail. More info: 425-257-8300, ext 2.
Rest stop closed to semis: The commercial vehicle weigh station at the southbound I-5 rest stop near Silver Lake is closed until March 2015, according to the Washington State Patrol. The truck scale is being rebuilt. Semi trucks are no longer allowed to access the parking lot, and drivers may be cited for violations. Other vehicles still may use the rest stop.
Biking safety day: Wednesday is Bike to School Day at Hillcrest Elementary in Lake Stevens.
Local police and firefighters will visit the school to promote biking and bike safety.
