The Kiwanis Club of Arlington plans to hold their Fourth of July Scholarship Auction on Thursday in Haller Park, 1100 West Ave., Arlington. The first and second silent auctions begin at 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. respectively, with each running for 30 minutes. The live auction begins at 10:30 a.m.
Auction bidders will be presented items ranging from septic tank pumping services, to Curt McVey art pieces, a round of golf, Kay Duskin-made cheesecake and a ride to school on a fire truck. In addition, local artist Terry Marsh has made a wine hutch from recycled barn wood that has been filled with wine donated by Kiwanis members.
New this year is the drawing for a chicken coop, also made by Terry Marsh. This coop has been housed at the Co-Op, where tickets have been sold for the drawing which take place during the auction.
This auction is the major Kiwanis fundraiser for the year, and all proceeds go to the Dollars for Scholars/Kiwanis Scholarship Fund.
The Everett Fire Department is offering a summer Community Emergency Response Team class from 9 a.m. to noon on Mondays and Thursdays from July 22 through Aug. 15.
The eight-week course will provide a variety of disaster planning, recovery and survival skills aimed at assisting our community in disaster response and recovery.
Everett residents and business owners are encouraged to participate or send employees to these free emergency preparedness classes. To date, more than 570 people have participated in the Everett Fire Department CERT Program.
