KSER extends reach
The KSER Foundation will launch its second signal, KXIR (89.9 FM), at 6:45 tonight. That’s when KXIR is scheduled to go live with a simulcast of KSER (90.7 FM), the Everett-based independent public radio station.
With its new tower on Whidbey Island, KXIR, along with KSER, will expand the reach of community-based, commercial-free public radio to an estimated 1.3 million people in the region. The public is invited at tonight’s celebration at the KSER station, 2623 Wetmore Ave. in downtown Everett.
It begins at 6 p.m., and the launch countdown starts at 6:30 p.m. The KSER Foundation’s board meeting will follow the event. Tom Clendening, KSER station manager, said recently that the stations will simulcast for about six months. The foundation will seek comments about what programming will eventually air on KXIR.
Free concerto: Internationally acclaimed Russian pianist Alexander Ardakov plans to perform Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 at a free concert 2 p.m. Sunday at the Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave., Mukilteo.
The Mukilteo Community Orchestra also plans to perform Bizet’s “Carmen.”
