Front Porch: Learn about EvCC’s ORCA program Thursday in Everett

Learn more about Everett Community College’s Ocean Research College Academy program at 6 p.m. Thursday at its waterfront location, 1205 Craftsman Way, Suite 203, in Everett.

Visitors and prospective students can see student work, meet faculty members, learn about the program and see the facility, including the oceanography research lab and 120-gallon seawater tank.

The application deadline for the high school program is May 2 for the 2016-17 school year. For more information, call 425-267-0156.

Health care talk: Dr. Roger Stark will speak at the next meeting of the Camano Island Women’s Republican Club at noon April 26 at the Lost Lake Clubhouse, 1469 Lake Drive, Camano Island. Stark, a retired physician and health care policy analyst at Washington Policy Center, will discuss health care. Lunch is $5. Call 360-387-5886 for more information.

Bring in unwanted pills: The Island County Sheriff’s Office plans another prescription take-back event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 30 at 5521 E. Harbor Road. The Coupeville Marshal’s Office and Oak Harbor Police Department also are participating.

The free event aims to prevent prescription drug abuse and theft by getting old pills out of homes and safely disposed. Liquids and needles are not accepted. Similar events are held several times a year.
