An information night for parents and kids interested in the Stanwood Camano Island Soap Box Derby is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday at the Stanwood Camano Community Resource Center, 9612 271st St. NW. People can learn about the soap box derby and see some of the race cars. The derby is for ages 7 to 17. For more information, call 360-629-5257 or go to stancamsbd.org.

Mill Creek searches for new finance director: The city’s budget guru is leaving his job Friday. Finance Director Joshua Roundy resigned after less than a year overseeing the city’s budget.

Retired Finance Director Landy Manuel has agreed to step in until a replacement is hired. The city expects to have a candidate selected by mid-May.

Inequality and health: Stephen Bezruchka, of the University of Washington’s School of Public Health, will give the lecture “Inequality Kills” at a public meeting of the League of Women Voters, 7 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 6215 196th St. SW, Lynnwood. Snohomish needs volunteers: The city needs to fill an empty seat on its Public Safety Commission. Applications are available at City Hall or the Snohomish website. They must be submitted by 4 p.m. March 28.
