Few high school jazz bands are good enough to be invited to play off campus. But the South Whidbey High School Jazz Ensemble is one of those exceptions.
It’s one of 12 high school jazz bands in the U.S. selected to play in the Next Generation Festival in Monterey, Calif., in early April.
To help them pay for the trip, the band will play a benefit concert at 7:30 tonight at the Whidbey Island Center for the Arts, 565 Camano Ave., Langley. Tickets are $12 and $15; call 800-638-7631, 360-221-8268 or go to www.wicaonline.com.
