Front Porch: Lowell’s past and future

The Lowell Civic Association will present a seminar covering the past and future of Everett’s historic Lowell neighborhood, from the retreat of the glaciers to future projects and ideas.

“Ice, Wood, and Water” will feature discussion of the neighborhood’s growth and near-future projects such as the Riverfront project.

The seminar is free to the public, and will run from 7-9 p.m. Monday at Lowell Community Church, 5218 Second Ave., Everett.

Short cruise for Nimitz: The USS Nimitz left Naval Station Everett early Friday for a family day cruise.

Kristin Ching, a base spokeswoman, said the aircraft carrier would return to Everett late Friday or on Saturday.

The cruise north was expected to take Navy families to the Strait of Juan de Fuca, Ching said.

Republicans plan beach potluck: A Republican Women’s Rally at the Beach is set for noon to 3 p.m. June 24 at the Camano Country Club beach No. 2, 1243 Beach Drive, Camano Island. All ages are invited. Bring a potluck item; the Camano Island Women’s Republican Club will provide hamburgers and hot dogs.

The event includes prizes and a chance to meet 2014 Republican candidates for office.
