Meet candidates to run ferry system
The Washington State Department of Transportation has narrowed the pool of candidates for assistant secretary of transportation, Ferries Division, to two, and the public is invited to meet them at open houses Monday in Friday Harbor and Tuesday in Bremerton.
The Friday Harbor event will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Friday Harbor House, 130 West St. The Bremerton event will be held Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Norm Dicks Center, 345 6th St.
The candidates are:
Capt. George Capacci, who is the interim assistant secretary and previously held the position of WSF deputy chief of operations and construction. He also has been an executive with the Alaska Marine Highway System and is a retired U.S. Coast Guard officer.
John Ladenburg, an attorney, former Pierce County executive and former Pierce County prosecuting attorney. Ladenburg also has served as chairman of Sound Transit.
Washington State Ferries is the largest ferry system in the U.S.
