Memorial for homeless
A ceremony to recognize National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day will be held at 5 p.m. Friday outside the Snohomish County Courthouse, 3000 Rockefeller Ave., Everett. The event will recognize homeless people, including veterans, who have died in Snohomish County this year.
Snohomish County Executive John Lovick and Everett Mayor Ray Stephanson will join members of the Homeless Veterans Committee at the event, which is open to the public. The committee is an 18-member partnership, started in 2010, with a goal of ending veteran homelessness in Snohomish County by 2015. Since 2013, the committee has helped find housing for 215 veteran households.
Scouts will recycle trees: Local Boy Scout troops again plan to offer free Christmas tree recycling after the holidays.
An interactive map of local troops is available at dryneedles.com.
In addition, drop-off zones in Edmonds and Lynnwood are planned for early January.
Many locations are limited to one or two days, so contact a troop to make arrangements now. Flocked trees are not accepted. All decorations must be removed.
Dried-out Christmas trees can pose a fire hazard if left too long inside or outside a home.
The local Boy Scouts headquarters office can be reached at 425-338-0380 for more information.
