New Arlington police leader
Jon Ventura has been named the first deputy chief of the Arlington Police Department. He started in that role this week.
Ventura, 39, previously was a detective sergeant. He has worked for the city since 2000 and also served in the military. A ceremony is planned at the Feb. 17 City Council meeting.
The new position is part of an ongoing two-year overhaul of the police department.
Honoring Vietnam War veterans: Veterans who served in Vietnam will be honored for their service Saturday at the Hibulb Cultural Center on the Tulalip Indian Reservation. The ceremony is one of many commemorating the 50th anniversary of the war. Veterans will receive a pin, and families of those killed in action will be honored as well.
The event is sponsored by the Washington State Gold Star Mothers and the Tulalip Veterans’ Center. It is open to all Vietnam-era veterans. For information, contact Myra Rintamaki at 206-235-0348.
Firearm class on Camano: The Camano Law Enforcement Support Foundation and the Camano Center plan a firearm safety class from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Feb. 21 at the center, 606 Arrowhead Road. People should not bring their guns to the class. More info: 360-387-6357, or 360-387-0222.
