New park opens
Buffalo Park is opening at 3 p.m. Friday at 132nd Street SE and 44th Avenue SE in Mill Creek.
The 1.26-acre park is part of the East Gateway Urban Village development. Polygon Homes is building 302 apartments and townhomes as well as commercial spaces along the south side of 132nd Street SE between Seattle Hill Road and 35th Avenue SE.
Buffalo Park has bocce ball, handball and foursquare courts. There are swings, a spinner and a climbing structure. Some of the play equipment is accessible for those who use wheelchairs.
There’s also a picnic shelter, tables and a barbeque.
Help a horse: The Equine Aid Horse and Donkey Rescue is having a celebration and silent auction from 2:30 to 5 p.m. Sunday at WhirlyBall in Edmonds..
The Monroe rescue is competing for a chance to win a $10,000 grant from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The local group hopes to protect more horses with the money.
The event will include pizza, drinks and games at 23401 Highway 99 in Edmonds.
Tickets cost $25 and can be purchased at the door or with PayPal at equineaid@comcast.net.
