A grant for Gold Bar: Snohomish County Fire District 26 in Gold Bar has received a $1,000 grant for wildfire equipment. The money will be used to replace nozzles, hoses and backpacks that were damaged during this year’s wildfire firefighting efforts, Fire Chief Eric Andrews said.
The grant is from the Medic One Foundation and the Physio Foundation, both of Washington.
Fire chief to change: Ed Widdis, the longtime chief of Snohomish County Fire District 1, has announced plans to retire at the end of 2016. The fire district, the largest in the county, will begin a search for a new chief next year. Widdis has been chief since 2004, and a full-time firefighter since 1980.
District 1 serves most of the county south of Everett, including Brier, Edmonds and Mountlake Terrace. The district has ongoing talks of a potential merger or contract with the city of Lynnwood as well.
