The Washington State Department of Transportation is closing Highway 522 in both directions from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. , tonight and Wednesday between U.S. 2 and 164th Street SE as part of the project to expand the highway to four lanes.
The work will be happening near the 179th Street overpass.
Drivers are encouraged to take Fryelands Boulevard or 164th Street SE as detours. They can also take Highway 9.
There are also one-lane closures scheduled between 164th Street and the Snohomish River Bridge from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. each night this week.
Art contest: The Marysville Diversity Advisory Committee and Marysville Arts Coalition are holding a first-ever diversity art contest.
The contest is open to all youth and adults in the Marysville and Tulalip areas starting March 27. One entry is allotted per person and is restricted to traditional two-dimensional artwork.
The contest is divided into age divisions: Pre-school-2nd grade, 3rd -5th grade, 6th -8th grade, 9th -12th grades and adults (18 and older).
All artwork submitted must fit the theme “Diversity Works: Sharing Similarities, Celebrating Differences.” Entries need to include the entrant’s name, mailing address, home phone, email address, and additionally for youth, age, grade, parent’s name and school name. Entry deadline is 4 p.m. Aug. 2.
Contest prizes include a $25 gift card and ribbon for each division winner and a grand prize worth up to $300. The grand prize winner will be selected from among the division winners and announced at a multicultural fair in September.
