Honoring a life
Housing Hope this Saturday will hold a tree planting ceremony to honor the life of Toni Wiegand, a dedicated employee who died of cancer last year.
The event is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. at the Copper Station Housing Development in Stanwood.
Wiegand’s role as housing counselor and loan and family coordinator helped families with a total of 35 people get new homes in Stanwood.
She helped recruit and organize “building groups” to build new single family homes for 81 families.
Building groups are comprised of five to 10, low- to moderate-income families providing “sweat equity” in lieu of a down payment.
The ceremony will be a celebration of Wiegand’s life and commemorate her efforts with the planting of 35 trees at the Copper Station site she helped to establish.
