Japan opportunity for students: The Edmonds Sister City Commission is accepting applications from students who are interested in visiting Japan in the summer of 2015. Up to 15 students between 14 and 18 years old will be accepted for the trip, scheduled for July 20 to Aug. 3. Still will stay with families in Hekinan, Japan with day trips to visit local schools and city features as well as trips to Nagoya and Kyoto, the religious and cultural center of Japan.
The cost of the trip for students has ranged from $1,100-$1,700, depending on airfare. Information and application packets are available online at www.escc.edmondswa.gov under Exchange Programs in the left hand menu.
New Year’s ball on Camano Island: The Camano Center is hosting its annual Black &White Ball on New Year’s Eve.
The event runs from 8 p.m. to midnight on Dec. 31. Camano Junction is scheduled to play live big band music. A $25 ticket includes hors d’oeuvres and champagne for a New Year’s toast. Tickets are sold at the door but reservations can be made by calling 360-387-0222.
Camano Center is run by the nonprofit Camano Senior Services Association and hosts a variety of community events throughout the year.
