No fireworks show
The city of Stanwood and the Stanwood Chamber of Commerce have canceled plans for the annual Fourth of July Fireworks Show at Heritage Park.
City officials said the event was canceled due to the difficulty in raising the money to support the event in the continuing down economy.
Last year’s show was presented by the chamber with support from private donors.
Free whooping cough shots: Uninsured and low-income adults can get the whooping cough shot for free during a special vaccination clinic from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday night in Monroe.
The shots will be offered at Valley General Hospital, 14701 179th Ave. SE. Five hundred doses will be available. The shots are being offered for walk-up patients. No appointments are needed.
The immunizations are being provided by the state Department of Health in response to Washington’s ongoing whooping cough epidemic.
More than 2,000 cases have been reported statewide.
Donation goes to beds for children: St. Vincent de Paul, North Sound Council, has received a donation of $2,000 from the Catherine Holmes Wilkins Foundation for the Beds for Children Program. The money will help buy beds for children who need them.
