Gov. Chris Gregoire directs that flags at all Washington state agency facilities be lowered to half-staff Thursday in memory of U.S. Army Pfc. Court D. Haugen, 23, of Wenatchee, who died March 11 in Germany.
He was returning to Fort Lewis after serving 15 months in Iraq.
Flags should remain at half-staff until the close of business on Thursday or first thing Friday morning.
A Furry Friends Festival in Everett brought in $20,000 to benefit dog shelters of Snohomish and Skagit counties.
Local musicians, including Tim Noah, donated their time to entertain at the February event.
The Holiday Inn donated dog-friendly facilities, and the Boeing Co. and Tulalip Casino and Resort made large donations.
Six Red Cross volunteers from the Snohomish County Chapter are headed to Fargo, N.D., a staging area for American Red Cross flood relief support. They will join other volunteers from across the country.
Deployed members are Rock Borchardt, Sultan; Fred Breedlove, Bothell; Phil McCulley, Arlington; Barbara Meyers, Hansville; Steve Place, Everett; and Bill Westlake, Seattle.
Preparations for flooding in the Red River Valley have included more than 24,000 prepackaged meals and thousands of cots, blankets and toiletry kits.
Food vehicles were among the first Red Cross units on-site to support the sandbagging crews. Nearly 1.9 million sandbags were expected to be filled to fight floodwaters.
