Exam results coming
State Superintendent Randy Dorn will release statewide results from the High School Proficiency Exam on Tuesday.
Passing the reading and writing HSPE is one of four state requirements for graduation. The others are attaining at least 19 credits (most districts require more), completing a plan of high school and beyond and completing a culminating project.
TVW, Washington’s statewide public affairs television station, will broadcast and Webcast the news conference live.
See www.tvw.org for details.
New community garden: Children are invited to help at the new community garden that is scheduled to open Saturday morning.
The community gathering is scheduled to start at 9 a.m., in the A-Frame building of Volunteers of America, 701 First St.
Refreshments and snacks will be provided.
People are advised to bring their own gloves.
The garden is meant to educate children about growing their own food. Half of the crops will also be donated to the local food bank.
Furlough day: Today will be another furlough day for many Washington state employees.
June 10 is the last of 10 unpaid days in the current budget period to cut state spending for employees. Law enforcement and other crucial workers are exempted.
