Treat stroke quickly
It’s Stroke Awareness Month. Stroke is the third-leading cause of death in America, and the No. 1 cause of adult disability. A stroke occurs when a blood clot blocks an artery or a blood vessel, interrupting blood flow to an area of the brain.
Here’s a primer on the symptoms of stroke, courtesy of the Snohomish County Fire District 7 and the National Stroke Association.
Here are the symptoms of a stroke:
n Sudden numbness or weakness of face, arm or leg — especially on one side of the body.
n Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding.
n Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes.
n Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination.
n Sudden severe headache with no known cause.
Call 911 immediately if you or someone you know has any of these symptoms.
