Treats for troops
Several local stores are collecting excess Halloween treats to send to U.S. troops overseas.
Sweet Indulgence is heading up a Treats for our Troops candy drive through Nov. 15. Drop-off sites include its Monroe store, at 19555 U.S.2, as well as Cedarbrook Veterinary Care, 9812 215th Ave. SE, Snohomish, and Cold Stone Creamery at 16822 Twin Lake Ave., Marysville.
Pre-paid U.S. Priority Mail postage, cards and well wishes also are appreciated.
Scrub City in Everett is heading Operation Gratitude, which will collect candy, cards and picture drawings for the troops through Nov. 15. The store is at 7430 Evergreen Way, Suite 102. Pick-up service is available.

Youth hockey: Comcast Community Ice Rink will join more than 500 programs across the country Saturday to encourage kids, ages 4 to 9, to try hockey as part of the NHL’s Come Play Hockey Month.
Register online at tryhockeyforfree.com or sign up in person at 9 a.m. at the arena at 2000 Hewitt Ave., Everett. Skaters should bring a helmet (bicycle helmets are OK) and mitts or gloves.
