Where to get flu shots
With this year’s flu season more severe than usual, the Snohomish Health District is providing up to 500 doses of flu shots this week and next in Everett to uninsured and low-income adults. The first event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon Friday during the WorkSource Community Resource Fair at Everett Station, 3201 Smith Ave. The second clinic is scheduled from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Jan. 26 at Comcast Arena, 2000 Hewitt Ave.
Shots to prevent whooping cough, tetanus and diphtheria also will be available.
Reducing the daily kid battles: Tricia King, Northshore School District’s secondary mental health specialist, presents parents and teachers with useful strategies for decreasing power struggles and daily battles that often occur with kids, both with and without special needs, from 7 to 9 p.m. Jan. 23.
The strategies presented are appropriate for all children and may be useful to increase participation in school tasks and routines, homework, household activities, as well as compliance with family rules and expectations (such as bed time, computer use, daily life activities and chores), with a goal of a calmer, happier household.

Free mountain passes: The U.S. Forest Service is giving visitors to the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest a free pass for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Fees will be waived at more than 74 day-use sites in the forest on Jan. 21.
