Santa Run in Monroe: Monroe firefighters plan Santa Run food drives Dec. 18 in the Fryelands and the Foothills neighborhoods.

People can expect him in Fryelands about 6:30 p.m. and in the Foothills about an hour later.
Lynnwood fireworks fight continues: A petition to overturn a fireworks ban in Lynnwood has been forwarded to the county elections office for review. County staff members expect it will take about a week to verify the signatures. If the petition is found to meet legal requirements, the city will have to adopt it or put it to a public vote in 2015.
Banks help the food bank: Now through Dec. 29, some Snohomish Chamber of Commerce member banks are participating in the sixth annual Battle of the Banks to Benefit the Bank — the Snohomish Community Food Bank, that is. These banks are collecting non-perishable food and monetary donations: Washington Federal, 620 Second St.; Columbia Bank, 167 Lincoln St.; Coastal Community Bank, 928 Ave. D; Opus Bank, 1101 Ave. D; and Peoples Bank at Fred Meyer, 2801 Bickford Ave.
On Dec. 30, judges will award one bank the coveted “Heavyweight Champion Against Hunger” trophy.
