Water-safety classes
Snohomish County is offering water-safety classes at local parks in the coming weeks in an effort to prevent drownings.
Every year, adults, teens and children lose their lives in area waters.
The week-long classes cost $38. Start dates are July 14, July 21 and July 28. Locations include Lake Goodwin, Twin Lakes, Martha Lake and Lake Stevens.

Free night air show thanks Arlington, Oso: This year’s Arlington Fly-In will wrap up with a free nighttime airshow as a thank you to people who stepped up during the Oso mudslide recovery efforts, according to Mayor Barbara Tolbert.
Team Rocket is scheduled to perform in an aerial show that includes stunt planes and fireworks set to music. Gates open at 6 p.m. Saturday for free admission. A jazz concert is set for 7 p.m., with the night airshow following at 9:45 p.m.
Burning banned: A burn ban for Western Washington went into effect on Friday and could last for weeks.
The ban applies to all forestlands under state protection.
