Front Porch: What Everett school programs should be cut?

What should be cut?

The Everett School District could be facing multi-million budget cuts next year, due to cuts in state funding. City residents are being asked for their opinions on what programs need to be reduced or cut through an online survey.

Folks have until 4 p.m. Friday to respond. The survey is on the school district’s website at www.zoomerang.com/Survey/WEB22BYULWE7T4/.

Historians meet: A meeting of the Mukilteo Historical Society is planned for Thursday.

Meet at 7:15 p.m. at Fowler Room at Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave. in Mukilteo. This month’s speaker is Chrys Bertolotto, from WSU Beach Watchers, who will talk about “A Tour of the Salish Sea.”

The meeting is open to anyone and refreshments will be served.

Design workshop in Edmonds: The city of Edmonds Economic Development Commission, University of Washington Green Futures Lab and Cascade Land Conservancy offer a planning meeting for the Five Corners and Westgate neighborhood commercial areas.

It’s planned for 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Edmonds Library, 650 Main St., in Edmonds.

Work with folks to explore ideas on how these areas could develop in the future, hear the results of surveys and a market overview analysis and learn about potential pedestrian or traffic improvements.

The ongoing project is sponsored by the city, working with faculty and graduate students from the University of Washington, College of Built Environment, to create plans for the future of these two neighborhood commercial areas. There will be more opportunities to get involved. Later this spring, more meetings will show results of the work.
