Drivers should be prepared for daytime closures of lanes and intersections on Highway 9 through Maltby over the next week as crews finish paving for a road-widening project.
The work is scheduled to take place on the highway between 212th Street SE and 188th Street SE on Saturday and from 188th to 176th Street SE from Sunday through Friday.
Crews plan to lay asphalt as early as 8 a.m. on the weekend, 9 a.m. on weekdays and it could continue into the evening hours, said Kris Olsen, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Transportation.
One lane will remain open in each direction but drivers should prepare for traffic shifts from one side of the highway to the other and short-term closures of side streets.
After the pavement is down, crews will paint temporary lane markers and the new lanes will be open to traffic, Olsen said.
Crews are pushing to finish the $59.1 million project before colder, wetter weather sets in, she said. For more information go to http://tinyurl.com/3bpfgy6.
