Front Porch: YMCA benefit run Saturday in Monroe

Monroe YMCA race

The Monroe YMCA has scheduled its annual Sky Valley Classic run at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Proceeds from the race benefit the YMCA Minority Achievers Program.

There are 1-mile, 5K and 10K routes planned through Monroe, the Sky Valley and Al Borlin Park. The race is set to start on Main Street near Highway 203 in Monroe. A costume contest is also planned.

Race fees start at $25. Youth are expected to pay their age. People can register online or at any YMCA of Snohomish County family branch. For more information, call 360-804-2162 or visit ymca-snoco.org/svclassic.

Microchip your pet: The Camano Animal Shelter Association is sponsoring a low-cost microchip clinic on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the shelter on the corner of East Camano Drive and Can Ku Road, Camano Island.

Cost is $20 per chip. Cats must arrive in a carrier and dogs must be leashed.
