EVERETT — A 16-year-old gang member who became a fugitive last week was arrested Wednesday.
He allegedly had walked away from a mental health evaluation during a brief, court-approved release from juvenile custody. He is expected to be booked again, Everett police officer Aaron Snell said.
The boy has pending charges for drug and gun crimes. Officials say he’s been linked to multiple drive-by shootings in Everett. He also might face charges for the escape. He was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon from a car in Mukilteo without incident, “after an extensive search,” Snell said.
A teenage girl who was driving the car also was apprehended. She is accused of resisting arrest and rendering criminal assistance. A criminal assistance charge can be filed when someone is suspected of helping another evade capture. In some circumstances, it can be a felony offense.
The car was impounded pending a search warrant.
The Daily Herald is not naming the pair because of their ages. A number of police agencies were involved in the capture, Snell said.
Public records show that authorities were worried the boy would hurt himself or someone else while on the lam. Before escaping, he was accused of making violent threats toward custody officers. His charges are in juvenile court.
