LAKE STEVENS — A fund has been set up for a dog that was shot in the head with a metal-tipped arrow Friday.
The money collected will go toward a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever shot Chase and the more than $1,200 in medical expenses to treat him.
"This person needs to be identified for the sake of the community," said Joann Deckard, who set up the fund.
"Anyone who has the capacity to perpetrate this cruelty against an animal has the capacity to perpetrate it against a human," Deckard said. "This person needs to be help accountable."
Chase was found by his owner, Larry MacDonald, late Friday night. The 5-year-old mixed breed dog had a hunting arrow imbedded in his skull. Chase underwent surgery and was able to go home Sunday.
Police believe that someone drove by MacDonald’s house in the 14700 block of 44th Street NE and shot the dog.
"He’s doing pretty good. He doesn’t want to come in the house. His head is itchy so it means the wound is healing," MacDonald said.
MacDonald was happy to learn a reward fund was set up.
"Somebody knows what happened. Maybe this will get someone to come forward," he said.
Donations can be made to "For the Benefit of Chase" at the Silver Lake Washington Federal Savings or any branch of the bank. For more information about the fund, call Deckard at 206-598-8961.
