EVERETT — A fire in an oil furnace at a home in the Lowell neighborhood on Sunday was extinguished before it could spread to the rest of the house, according to the Everett Fire Department.
No injuries were reported.
Crews arriving at about 8:45 a.m. at the home in the 2100 block of Bigelow Street heard small explosions and saw black smoke coming from the basement, Fire Marshal Rick Robinson said.
A resident told crews that the fire was outside the furnace and included a fuel leak. Crews were able to cut power to the furnace and quickly extinguish the fire.
Damage was estimated at about $10,000, Robinson said.
