State’s quarter needs a write-up
Our state needs a creative writer to help in the design of Washington’s quarter. In 2007, the U.S. Mint will issue the state’s 25-cent coin as part of the state quarters program.
In 100 words or less, describe what images or words should appear on the state quarter.
The Washington State Quarter Advisory Commission is developing the words to go along with the images that will be sent to the Mint, and making recommendations to the governor regarding the final design of the quarter.
Writers may submit suggestions online at http://governor.wa. gov/quarter. The deadline is Saturday.
Help seniors cope with summer heat
Summer is finally here. Make sure older friends are comfortable and prepared for the hot days.
The Web site www.homeinstead.com offers the following suggestions when visiting an older person:
* Make sure they have enough food and beverages stocked in the refrigerator and pantry. Offer to pick up some groceries for them or prepare a few days of meals for the freezer.
* If it’s not possible for the senior to keep extra medications in the house, help them to arrange for a pharmacy to make deliveries.
* Make sure the temperature in the senior’s home is adequate to keep them comfortable.
* Consider inviting an elderly neighbor to your family gathering for a fun outing.
