The Museum of Snohomish County History offers slides and stories about the Everett and Monte Cristo Railway at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Flying Pig restaurant, 2929 Colby Ave., Everett.
Learn about the railway, called one of the most troublesome lines ever built in America, by historians Daryl Jacobson and Phil Woodhouse.
The event is free and will follow a brief museum membership and business meeting.
Jacobson and Woodhouse will show many of the 200 photos from their book, “The Everett and Monte Cristo Railway.”
They recommend you ask about the kissing tunnel.
Lane closure due on Hewitt Avenue
The state Department of Transportation will close one lane on the Hewitt Avenue entrance to eastbound U.S. 2 between 6 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Wednesday to take soil samples.
Crews may also close one lane during the same hours on Thursday if needed to complete work. Heavy rain could postpone the closures.
Giant garage sale comes to Monroe

Parking and admission are free. No pets allowed.
Brownies help animals in need
Rules created a problem, but youngsters found a solution. Girl Scouts can’t raise money for other organizations, but no one said they couldn’t collect pet food.
Members of Brownie Troop No. 675 in the Edmonds area wanted to help the Progressive Animal Welfare Society in Lynnwood. They organized a movie night at Hazelwood Elementary School and showed Disney’s “Lady and the Tramp.”
They charged admission in the way of goods, and collected 280 cans of pet food, 32 bags of food and toys, treats and collars.
