Ruth Brandal of Everett offers a crash course in manners for those driving on farm roads in wintry weather.
First, slow down, she says. Most roads in the rural areas of Snohomish County were not designed with commuters in mind, including Sunnyside Boulevard in Marysville and Lowell-Larimer Road in Everett.
Slow-moving farm vehicles, including tractors that dwarf any passenger vehicle, might be just around the next bend, she says. You do not want to hit one of them.
If you do manage to run off the road and plow through someone’s fence, she adds, please let the farmer know so their animals don’t wander out on the road.
St. Mary Magdalen offers tsunami sale
Students at St. Mary Magdalen School in Everett plan a toy, book and bake sale Tuesday to raise money for victims of the tsunamis in south Asia.
The “Gifts From the Heart” sale will be 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. in the parish hall at 8615 Seventh Ave. SE.
Students contributed their own toys, games and books for the sale, and more than 100 adults have volunteered to organize the donated items, serve as cashiers and supervise the sale.
Proceeds will be donated to Catholic Relief Services, an international aid agency already at work in the affected areas. St. Mary Magdalen School is a Catholic elementary school serving 482 students from pre-school through eighth grade.
Indonesian group also aiding victims
A group of local Indonesians is accepting donations of blankets, baby food and other items to send to victims of the earthquake and tsunamis in south Asia. Those who wish to donate may take items to 4132 Federal Ave. in Everett starting at 1 p.m. today.
