The Everett Public Library at 2702 Hoyt Ave. will open at 8 a.m. on Friday, two hours early, so people can view the return of the USS Abraham Lincoln and USS Shoup to Naval Station Everett.
The ships will return to their home port from tsunami relief missions in south Asia.
Two free public events are planned in connection with the ship’s return. The first is a tsunami summit at 7 p.m. March 10 at the Everett Historic Theatre, 2911 Colby Ave., with two experts on tsunamis and earthquakes explaining the dangers and answering questions.
The second event is a humanity’s heroes community celebration to welcome home the sailors and to recognize the community for its tsunami relief efforts at 11 a.m. March 12 at the Snohomish County Campus Plaza, 3000 Rockefeller Ave.
