Members of the Odyssey Elementary School PTA will hand out tags with suggestions for presents for low-income children 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. today and Sunday at the school campus, 13025 17th Ave. W., Everett.
For 16 years, PTAs in the Mukilteo School District have participated in the “Giving Wishes, Project Hope” holiday program. Changes in corporate policies at local stores have moved the volunteers from storefronts to the school this year to distribute the tags.
Last year, more than 600 children, mostly in the Mukilteo district, received gifts through the program, said Lisa Keown, a member of the Odyssey PTA board, which coordinates the district program.
Additional dates may be announced. For more information, call 425-356-1256 and press option 4.
Ivar’s did its part for TV makeover
As hoopla continued in Kingston this week over construction of a new home for “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” Ivar’s supplied some warm nourishment.
Ivar’s learned that the Los Angeles-based crew of the popular TV show was in the area, and they knew they were not used to Northwest weather.
Ivar’s chief executive, Bob Donegan, and employee Scott Kingdon, Jr., both of Edmonds, boarded the Kingston ferry with a supply of chowder.
Turns out that Paige Hemmis, one of the show’s designers and stars, is allergic to clams. But 200 bowls of steaming chowder were served to Ty Pennington, the show’s star, and to the production team building the house, landscaping the yard and shooting footage for the show, which will air in January.
WSU wins license rivalry for 8th year
We don’t know who will be victorious in today’s Apple Cup game between the University of Washington and Washington State University in Pullman, but we know one winner.
This year, special Washington license plates that benefit scholarships have been purchased by 18,287 Cougar supporters and by 8,625 Husky supporters.
WSU wins the drive for the sixth straight year.
